Accommodation

We have various beautiful properties and rooms within the main house and grounds of the manor, that provide fully private and very comfortable overnight accommodation.

All our onsite accommodation is available for booking on a bed and breakfast or self catering basis throughout the year, for non-wedding guests, perhaps for a romantic getaway, country retreat or short break with loved ones.

For the very limited number of weddings we host per year, accommodation, all our accommodation options will be reserved for the couple and their guests.

The River Lodge

Newlywed couples will be able to stay in ‘The Lodge’ – a delightful, wooden cabin that sits within complete privacy in a secret corner of the gardens and overlooks the banks of the River Esk.

Our lodge comes with it’s own outdoor, copper bath and log burner, providing the most intimate and romantic setting for newlyweds.

This incredible secluded cabin sits on a private stretch of the river at the heart of a 6,000 acre estate in the North York Moors. You’re surrounded by nothing but nature and wildlife, with the salmon and seatrout river running by in front, the trees behind, nosey otters that might come snuffling around and owls that’ll sing to you all night. Apart from the occasional passing fisherman (you can arrange to fish the private beat yourself if you like) you’ll have the whole area to yourself. Throw back the sliding doors and breeze out from the king-size bed straight onto the deck to get the BBQ going, dip your feet in the river (or dive right in) and soak up the perfect peace. It’s a simply idyllic place and just when you think it couldn’t get any better, you realise the estate has its own pub, The Horseshoe Hotel, with a great beer garden and outdoor bar, BBQ and fantastic farm shop so you pick up some great local produce along with your pint. The Postgate Pub, also only a short walk away, was voted among the top ten in the country by The Times.

While you might never leave the riverside, there’s plenty to see and do in the area if you venture out. In nearby Grosmont you’ll find an art gallery, cafe and book shop, as well as the North York Moors steam trains. You’re only six miles from Whitby and beaches like Runswick Bay and Robin Hood’s Bay where you can get some surfing or paddle boarding practice in. The Coast to Coast trail also runs right through the private estate, so you can hop on and ramble for miles. Olly and Laura, your hosts are on hand if you need any suggestions for getting to know the area, but they’ll leave you a welcome hamper that will at least introduce you to the great locally roasted coffee, bread, butter and milk. You can pop up and visit if you need to or if you want to meet the llamas, but otherwise, simply sit by the river and enjoy the unspoilt wildlife and starlit nights of a Dark Sky Reserve and beautifully wild piece of countryside.

Courtyard Rooms Bed & Breakfast

Our Courtyard rooms are located within the grounds of the manor, and next to the Manor Cottage. We also have 8 double bedrooms in the Manor House available for weddings and events.

You’ll feel nicely independent here above the old stables, surrounded by 6,000 acres of woodland, river, moors, and meadows. A comfortable sitting room has a huge stone fireplace (all logs provided) and you have your own breakfast room: tuck into Whitby kippers or a full English, with eggs from the owners’ hens if they are laying and honey from hives on the heather-filled moor when available.

There are wonderful walks through the estate, or you can join the Coast to Coast path which runs alongside it. Wildlife is in abundance: you’ll see otters and kingfishers if you stay hushed, there are heron skulking by the river, and you can try your hand at fly fishing along the river or in the estate’s reservoir.

A five-minute walk will take you to the Horseshoe Hotel with its outdoor bar and barbecue and a farm shop which sells local produce. Pack up a picnic on fine days and head to one of many wide sandy beaches, or revel in history, fish and chips and Dracula fans in Whitby.
